Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Boise ID
845 PM MDT Tue May 27 2025
.DISCUSSION...Skies will be mostly clear tonight with light
winds. An upper level ridge will strengthen on Wednesday,
bringing 5-10 degrees of warming from today. This will push high
temperatures into the lower 90s in many lower valley locations,
with Boise likely (75% chance) to reach 90 degrees for the
first time this year. There will be just enough moisture for a
5-15% chance of showers and thunderstorms along the Nevada
border and the central Idaho mountains, which would be capable
of gusty outflow winds. However, any storms should be short
lived and dissipate before reaching the Snake Basin. Forecast
remains on track and no updates planned this evening.
&&
.AVIATION...VFR. Mostly clear, except isolated showers and
thunderstorms along the Nevada border and across the central
Idaho mountains Wednesday afternoon. Outflow gusts to 40 kt
near thunderstorms. Surface winds: variable less than 10 kt.
Winds aloft at 10kft MSL: SW-W 5-15 kt.
KBOI...VFR. Surface winds: Variable to SE up to 5 kt overnight,
becoming NW 5-10 kt Wednesday afternoon.

SHORT TERM...Tonight through Thursday night...As high pressure
builds aloft, a general warming and drying trend will exist
through the week. There will be enough moisture for cumulus
buildups and a shower or two over mountains each afternoon.
Wednesday will be 5-10 degrees warmer than Tuesday, with light
winds and mostly clear skies. There`s a small, 10%, chance for
showers in far southeast Oregon, the Idaho/Nevada border, and
in the West Central Mountains Wednesday afternoon. Any showers
that do develop are expected to be light. Thursday a weak cold
front will bring 30 mph gusts to the area as well as a 10-20%
chance of storms in the W-central Mtns and ID/NV border. The
cold front will also cool temps slightly Thursday night.
LONG TERM...Friday through Tuesday...Upper ridging will rebuild
across the region in the wake of a passing shortwave trough,
bringing another warmup into the weekend. Saturday is on track to be
the hottest day of the year so far, with daily records being
threatened. Most areas will top out in the 90s, with a 20% chance
that Boise reaches 100 degrees. The heat will be short-lived, as
there is high confidence in an expansive low developing over the
western CONUS. This will bring a return to a cool and wetter, mid-
spring like pattern to the region, with showers and potentially
thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday.
